On June 11th I had the chance to volunteer at my past elementary school, Lakewood! My position was helping out with the professional photobooth. My station was a huge hit! I had a big line up at the photobooth, plus all the kids loved coming and dressing up all silly with crazy hats and accessories. I had a blast with the kids and they really enjoyed taking pictures with a ‘Princess’.  Also it was really amazing to be back in the school where I grew up and spent 7 years of my life. It was incredibly nice to see past teachers and for them to see how I have grown up as a person and to share my accomplishments with them. I especially loved walking through the hallways and looking at pictures of the younger version of myself and reflecting back to much simpler days. This made me realize how much I have changed and developed as a person and the challenges I have had to over come to be where I am today! I am truly thankful to my former elementary school for having me at the event as Miss Teenage Victoria<3

Truck 6Sunday marked another awesome day in beautiful Victoria.  I was on the Saanich Peninsula at the 4th annual Touch-a-Truck event!  This event was all about letting kids explore all kinds of big trucks – from fire trucks and police cars, to dump trucks and excavators and more!

There were so many other fun events going on as well, like a bouncy castle, hockey shoot Truck event 1out, and of course my favorite activity – dancing!!  I got to roam around and dance with all the kids at the event.  A videographer was following me around and plans to send in a video to the Ellen show!

All funds raised from today at the event benefit Neuroblastoma research in BC. Neuroblastoma is a deadly and aggressive childhood cancer that has affected 10 children in the Lower Vancouver Island area.

This weekend marked the beginning of my fundraising!  I have a few fundraising events planned for June and July to help me in my journey to Miss Teenage Canada.  I am excited to also fundraise for my charity – Free The Children!  This is an organization that has done so much to empower and enable youth to be agents of change and has raised awareness and much needed funding to support children in other less fortunate countries.  Free the Children was started in 1995 by a Canadian boy Craig Kielburger.  He was 12 at the time.

Thrifty's foods - fundraising

Thrifty Foods at Hillside Mall is where I did my kick-off.  I was selling Purdy’s chocolate bars – who doesn’t love chocolate – especially Purdy’s!!  lol  Thanks to those of you who came out to support me and don’t worry there is still lots of chocolate left for the rest of you!

Thanks also to my sister Anika and her friend Marisa for their help in setting up and promoting my stand!

Millstream Fun Fair 1  Millstream Fun fair 2

Had the chance to volunteer at Millstream’s school fun fair on May 22nd as a Bouncy Castle attendant! The kids were super hyper and excited to see a princess and bounce on the bouncy castle!  They were bouncing off the walls with excitement. I had a blast spending time and socializing with the children.

Today has been absolutely wonderful! This morning I participated in the 117th annual Victoria Day Parade Downtown Victoria BC. I invited McKenna Haz (Miss Teenage Vancouver Island) to join me.  We rode in the parade in my family’s 1965 fire engine red convertible Thunderbird.  It was very special, as this car was fully restored by my grandpa Ken and he worked on it for many years.  Sadly he passed away a few years ago but I am sure he would have been proud to see me today in the parade!

The day was so beautiful and sunny – a perfect parade day!  I also had the help of my brother Adrian, as our bodyguard 😉 and my sister Anika and her friend Marisa.   They handed out our business cards and encouraged people along the route to follow our social media.  There was an estimated 95,000 people lining the parade route!  It was so cool!!

After the parade, McKenna and I stopped for some photos near the BC Parliament buildings in the inner harbour.  We got to meet lots of nice tourists and people who all wished us congratulations and wanted to take our photos!

We got swarmed a few times by groups of people.  It was crazy but also very fun getting to meet so many people.

I met a lovely older couple in front of the Empress Hotel.  They were visiting from London, England and were waiting to take a tour to the Butchart Gardens.

We chatted for some time and I snapped this photo with them and gave them my card.  They said they would follow my journey.  They were so sweet and I hope they do!

Today was a memorable day and it was great to share it with my family and also with McKenna.  We are in this journey together and it’s gonna be so much fun in Toronto!!

As always – thanks so much for reading!

Hi everyone – it has been a really busy time for me and I wanted to share some amazing highlights from this past couple of weeks.

Last week I performed in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival with my high school advanced dance academy.  We performed 8 dances, including one that I, along with my friends (Brooke, Emma, & Mackenzie), choreographed.

We were thrilled to be recognized by the judges for our efforts and were selected to perform 2 dances in the Gala show on May 7th.  That night we also learned that we won the Young Choreographer’s Award for our dance – a lyrical number titled Heart Cry.

Over this weekend I also performed in the Karen Clark Dance Studio Annual Recital.  We had 3 shows over Friday and Saturday.  What a great week of dance! I managed to find time to sneak in some time to visit my precious little dancers!!  They were so excited to dance in their first show!

This year I received my award for 15 years of dance!  I had to wait until the last night to receive my gift – a beautiful diamond bracelet!

It’s hard to believe it has been 15 years – I was only 3 when I performed in my first dance recital.

I love my dance family so much!  Dance means so much to me and I can’t imagine my life without it!

Thanks for reading my post,

Love Alicia

xoxo

What an awesome day spent downtown Victoria in front of the parliament buildings cheering on kids while they run 1.5k with their family!

This Year marks the 26th Times Colonist 10k run and judging by how many people were downtown this morning it’s a pretty popular event. The family fun run was sponsored by Thrifty Foods.

I was a road Marshall Volunteer for the family fun run for kids! I was placed near the end of the race to be one of the last to cheer them on before hitting the finish line.  I got to support, motivate, cheer and high five all the mini participants.

Some great action shots mid race! You can just tell how much fun the children are having!

Today was really rewarding seeing all the little kids faces light up when they saw a “princess”.  I love going out and volunteering in my community!  It’s amazing to see so many happy, healthy, and active children out participating in a 1.5k fun run<3

Thanks for reading, have a wonderful day<3

Love always

It was a beautiful Spring weekend here in Victoria and great to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful blossoms in our city.  Saturday I met up with the amazing Ashley Sophia at Royal Roads University for a photo shoot.  Cherry blossoms, mystical forests, and historical castles were the perfect backdrop for the shoot.

Royal Roads, now a historical landmark, was once home to the Coast Salish First Nations people.  It later became inhabited by one of the very first settlers to BC in the early 1900s, the Dunsmuir family.  They built a breathtaking castle (Hatley Castle) which was their home for many years.  Later the site became a military college during WWII and for many years.  Today it is a modern university with a very rich history and 800 acres of beautiful gardens and ponds.  It is said that ghosts roam the castle and gardens…

Thank you again  Ashley Sophia for a great day and for sponsoring me with your photography!  I had so much fun working with you – it was a pleasure!!

The Bear Mountain Community Association hosted their 1st annual fun golf event today at the Bear Mountain Golf and Country Club.  The Westin Hotel is the backdrop to the golf course.  I love all the nature and trails around the course and the new owners are making more bike and hiking trails.

I was invited to present the awards to the winners of this fun community event.  The overall winners received a plaque and individual bear-shaped wooden medals.  The golfers got to enjoy lots of games and I got to present them with their prizes.  There were awards for Most Honest Team, Beat the Pro, Marshmallow drive, Putting contest and Ball Guess to name a few!

It was a beautiful day for the golf tournament and over 74 golfers came out to support their local community associations fundraising efforts.  The fundraising will go to continuing to make our community the best it can be by ensuring the preservation of green spaces for everyone to enjoy!

The golfers were treated to an amazing lunch put on the by the hotel.  It was a great way for me to get out and meet more people in my community.  Everyone has been so supportive of my journey and proud that I am representing them in this role.

Thanks Alicia xo

April 17, 2015 - Gazette News Story

Arnold Lim, News Staff with the Goldstream News Gazette did a feature story on me for their Friday, April 17th edition!  It was pretty cool to sit down with a reporter and share my story with him.  He also interviewed my dance company studio director, Karen Clark.  This year I celebrate 15 years of dancing at the studio and Miss Karen and the other dance faculty and dancers are like my 2nd family!  I love them to bits!

Make sure you read the on-line article: http://www.goldstreamgazette.com/eeditions/?iid=i20150417050048263

Thanks, Alicia xo
